ReRelease

Artists own artwork on loose canvas, deconstructed and reworked.
More Details

I have recreated this work in response to the call for entries for the And Again: Reused Textiles Exhibition – 2026. The original piece, Picta Mei Liberationem (Painted My Release) (3900 x 1800, acrylic on loose canvas, 2021), was the final work created for my 2021 solo exhibition Sensophaera Lucidum. The painting marked a deeply personal turning point in my life. It was created during a period in which I was navigating significant mental health challenges, and it became a visual expression of emerging from that darkness. Through the act of painting, I was able to process, release, and ultimately reclaim a sense of strength and vitality. My creative practice became a vital tool for healing—something that continues to sustain and guide me today. Since that time, this large-scale work has remained stored away, simply because of its size and the practical limitations of displaying it. In many ways it existed in a kind of suspended state—complete, yet unseen. Like many objects in our contemporary world, it had the potential to become something discarded or forgotten, another casualty of our culture of excess and limited space. The theme of And Again has offered me a meaningful opportunity to return to this work and reconsider its purpose. Rather than allowing it to remain hidden or ultimately go to waste, I have chosen to deconstruct and reimagine it. Through this process of dismantling, reusing, and rebuilding the textile components of the original canvas, the work has been given a second life. This act of transformation speaks not only to my personal journey but also to a broader environmental concern. In a society where materials are frequently discarded once their initial purpose has been fulfilled, the simple act of reuse becomes both a practical and symbolic gesture. By repurposing an existing artwork, I am engaging with the idea that materials—and experiences—do not have to be final or fixed. They can evolve, shift, and be reinterpreted. The reconstructed work becomes a reflection of where I am now, both creatively and metaphorically. It acknowledges the past while embracing change, embodying the idea that renewal is possible through reimagining what already exists. Life is always moving and evolving, yet I believe it is important to remember where we came from. The past informs the present, just as reclaimed materials carry the history of their previous forms into new expressions. In this way, the work is not simply remade—it is re-released.
