About the artist
Ria is the creative force behind Toodamnlippy Creative, a space dedicated to the belief that art is best served with a side of curiosity, spontaneity, and a little bit of noise. Her artistic DNA is a vibrant tapestry woven from years of multifaceted experience. From the technical precision of screen printing and make-up artistry to the scale of mural work and the magic of theatre set design, Ria has never met a medium she didn’t want to explore. After completing her Advanced Diploma in Art and Design at the Waiariki Institute of Technology in 2015, she centered her practice on a core, unwavering philosophy: the radical act of re-engaging with childhood imagination.
Ria’s work isn't just about paint on a canvas; it’s about play, subconscious exploration, and the curiosity that keeps us all learning. While she loves to jump between disciplines, you’ll most often find her at the easel, embracing an "anything goes" approach to creative expression.
Her professional trajectory includes a diverse range of high-impact projects, from the immersive emotional journey of her 2021 solo exhibition, SENSOSPHAERA LUCIDUM, to community-focused initiatives like Fish Out Of Water (2018). Her versatility has seen her work span from the grand scale of musical theatre sets (highlights include Grease, 2019, and Spamalot, 2021) to the intricate detail of book illustration (Charlie Parsons, 2021) and wearable art.
Today, Ria channels this breadth of experience into Toodamnlippy Creative Art Lab. Whether she is working on private commissions or facilitating group sessions, her mission remains the same: to help others unlock their own creative potential through bold, unfiltered expression.
